Alicia Ruiz Caridad, Ph.D.

Ramon y Cajal Researcher — Tenure Track

About

I am currently a Ramon y Cajal Researcher in ICREA Prof. Albert Tarancon’s group at the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC). I am deeply passionate about science, research, and education. My research focuses on developing advanced electrochromic devices using ion-based materials in the field of photoionics.

My ultimate goal in my scientific career is to contribute to the advancement of photonic and photoionic devices through my research and to play a role in shaping the academic development of future generations of scientists.

🔬 New: Unlocking stable intermediate states in functional oxides

How can we precisely control the properties of functional oxides through oxygen redistribution?

Paul's Nizet recent work published in Nature Communications, we demonstrate voltage-controlled oxygen stoichiometry in SrFeO₃₋δ thin films, revealing stable intermediate states between the fully oxidized perovskite and reduced brownmillerite phases.By combining solid-state electrochemistry, structural characterization, and defect chemistry, we establish a quantitative relationship between oxygen content, crystal structure, and electronic properties.
